Genius or estate agent: why Claude with Skills beats a regular chat

Who would you trust to sell your flat: an all-round genius or an experienced estate agent? 🏠

Let’s break down why Claude with Skills/Projects works better than a regular chat.
Picture this: you need to handle a complex property deal. Who do you hire?

1. A genius with an IQ of 300 who has read Wikipedia from cover to cover.

2. An experienced estate agent who has closed hundreds of deals like this one.
The genius knows a great deal about history, quantum physics and medicine. But that knowledge is superficial. The estate agent may not be able to keep up a conversation about black holes, but they could draw up the contract with their eyes closed, because they know every hidden pitfall.

🤖 So here’s the thing:
• Regular Claude is that same genius theorist.
• Claude set up through Projects/Skills is a narrowly focused expert.

Why is simply “throwing files into a chat” a bad idea?
Lots of people do this: they create a project, upload a pile of their own procedures, guides and examples, and hope for a miracle. While there are only a few files, it works. But once ten or so documents have built up, the problems start:

🟡 Problem 1: the context window.
A neural network’s memory isn’t unlimited. When you hit the limit, you have to either start a new chat or compress the information, losing important details.

🟡 Problem 2: the “lost in the middle” effect.
Neural networks (like people sitting through a long lecture) remember the beginning and the end well, but often get hazy about what came in the middle. If an important fact is buried deep in your pile of documents, Claude may miss it or make up something of its own.

🟡 Problem 3: version confusion.
You uploaded document v1.0, then the v1.1 edits, then the final v2.0. Claude sees all of them at once and can’t tell which one is current. As a result, it gives you a mix of old and new.

💡 The solution: use Skills
Instead of making the AI read the entire “library” at once, we create skills.
Imagine a cabinet with labelled drawers: “Contract templates”, “Brand ToV”, “Strategy”. Claude sees only the labels on the drawers and doesn’t look inside until it’s told to.
When you give it a task, it opens only the drawer it needs. It doesn’t have to keep all the project’s documentation in its head; it just takes the one file that’s needed here and now.

Bottom line: Skills turn a know-it-all genius into a well-coordinated team of professionals. Each skill is your own personal lawyer, copywriter or strategist, who steps in only when genuinely needed.
