Making subtitles for your videos? Then this tool is for you
To be honest, I’m surprised it’s taken until now for someone to build a decent subtitle service that’s free, fast and without watermarks.
Anyone who’s used Kapwing, Veed or Adobe Express knows the pain: either you pay, or you get a watermark across half the screen.
And then there’s AutoSubtitles. Minimal design, maximum functionality, and completely free.
That’s exactly why they’re growing so fast right now.
⭐ Why it beats most of the alternatives:
• Free to start: no strings attached, no subscriptions.
• No watermarks on your videos, which is rare these days.
• AI makes the subtitles quickly and accurately, and the timing holds up even without manual tweaks.
• No cluttered interface, unlike its competitors: open it → upload → download.
• Perfect for TikTok / Reels / YouTube Shorts, because it’s built specifically for short-form video.
It’s one of those cases where the product was built not by designers but by developers who film their own content: you can tell from the approach.
💡 But the most interesting part is the business model
Now pay attention… because this is an example you can copy for your own ideas.
AutoSubtitles isn’t making money right now: they’re building a community.
The logic is very simple and very sound:
1️⃣ Find a tool people already pay for.
2️⃣ Copy its core, simplify it and make it free.
3️⃣ Run ads → build up traffic → create a community.
4️⃣ Once you have hundreds of thousands of users,
you launch Pro features, an API or monetisation through ads.
And you know what?
People will pay. Because they already trust the brand.
It’s the same strategy Canva, Notion, Figma, Miro and CapCut used.
They don’t sell a product → they build an audience first.
